Tharoor Says Canada Ran Botched Inquiry In Kanishka Bombing: 'Impossible To Have Respect For Their Law Agency'
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor hit out at the Canadian government over the Kanishka bombing, saying "it is impossible to have respect for Canadian law enforcement because of the botched enquiry."

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, while speaking on Indo-Canadian relations, said that Canada allowing elements in its country to plan and execute murder and mayhem in India is unforgivable.
Speaking on the 1985 bombing of the Air India, the Congress MP said that Canada has so far not punished anybody for the death of 329 people, mostly India-origin for the crime.
While speaking at the ABP Network's Ideas of India 2025 Summit, Shashi Tharoor said, "I am in regular touch with the foreign minister and I have some sympathy for the very tough lines India has taken. While we respect Canada, their freedom of speech and their traditions, which in some ways are different from ours...But to condone and permit certain elements on the soil to not just preach, but plan and execute murder and mayhem in India is unforgivable."
Tharoor hit out at the Canadian government over the Kanishka bombing, saying "it is impossible to have respect for Canadian law enforcement because of the botched enquiry."
"It goes back to the Khalistani bombing of the Air India Kanishka aircraft in 1985. To this day, nobody has been punished for it. The Canadian ran such a botched enquiry that it is impossible to have respect for their law enforcement or their judicial process," Tharoor said.
He said that the people believed to be behind the bombings were allowed to go free and even celebrated taking credit of the killings.
"You can't have people who publicly gloated and celebrated to credit for the killings of all these innocent Indians and Canadians who are allowed to go scot-free and thrive in that place," he said.
Speaking on the Khalistani elements in Canada, the Congress MP said, "We have unfortunately seen a situation where a particular government and prime minister had some dependence on elements that are openly sympathisers of Khalistan extremism."
He further said that though it is not illegal to preach secessionism in Canada, but it is certainly illegal to plan and execute an ordered murder.
"And they (Canada) have been doing that. That is something which we simply can't allow," he added. He also said that former Indian military and police personnel who apply for tourist visas to Canada are denied, adding that it is "an insulting stand for a government to take".
