Mumbai Receives First Batch Of Covid-19 Vaccine; Here's How BMC Plans To Inoculate 1.25 Lakh People In Phase-I

Coronavirus Vaccine In Mumbai: The worst-hit in the country by the Covid-19 pandemic, Mumbai on Wednesday received the first lot of the 'Covishield' vaccine for Covid-19. The financial capital which recorded the maximum fatalities in the country ever since the outbreak of novel Coronavirus, received bout 1,39,500 doses of the vaccine ahead of the mass vaccination drive to be held at 72 centres.

Municipal Commissioner IS Chahal as quoted by news agency IANS said that the Covishield vaccine developed by the Serum Institute of India was brought in a special BMC vehicle from Pune to Mumbai with health officials and police security.
Here's How BMC Plans To Inoculate 1.25 Lakh People In Phase-I
The sources aware of the development informed that BMC has set up about 10 Cold storage center in the city including Manjur marg Facility. As per the prescribed procedures by the Centre and state government, the vaccines are stored in the temperature-controlled vaccine strong room. From there on, four vehicles with security guards will carry the vaccines boxes. Vaccine will be distributed from BMC's walk-in cooler site from the F/South Divisional Office to various vaccination centres in Mumbai over the next couple of days. BMC has uploaded data of 1.2 lakh Healthcare Workers. The body is targeting to vaccinate 11600 people per day. 1.25 lakh people will get vaccinated within 10-12 working days in Phase one. For phase 2 BMC is targeting to vaccination of 39600 people per day. All Vaccination centers will run in two shifts. Elaborating further, the BMC officials said that during vaccination in the first phase, the frontline workers must carry either Aadhar card, Voter ID card, Pan card or passbook with their photo printed on it as an identity proof. One must first get registered on CoWIN app and then carry these ID. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope has alleged that the state has received insufficient doses of COVID-19 vaccines.
