Though no deaths have been reported due to Omicron in India so far, the governments have started preparations to fight a probable third wave if covid-19 cases go out of proportion.
As the Omicron tally crossed the 200 mark on Tuesday, the Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan issued a letter to the states suggesting measures that should be taken by them in light of the Omicron spread scenario.
The letter suggested creating containment zones, night curfews, and other restrictions, testing and surveillance, clinical management like bed reservation and oxygen availability, increased vaccination speed, and community engagement in covid appropriate behaviour.
The Omicron variant is being reported to be three times more transmissible than the Delta variant. The presence of both Delta and Omicron variants may lead to a third wave in the country.
