Covid Tally: Delhi Sees Another Dip In Daily Caseload, Mumbai Reports 5,008 Infections

Delhi reported 10,756 fresh cases of Covid-19 and 38 fatalities, while Mumbai logged 5008 new infections and 12 deaths in the last 24 hours.

New Delhi: Delhi continues to report a dip as COVID cases drop from 12,306 to 10,756 in a day and in fact, the positivity rate has also cooled down from 21.48% to 18%. The total fatalities in Delhi stand at 25,541, according to the data shared by the Health Department.

Earlier, Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Friday turned down the Delhi government's proposal to lift the weekend curfew as well as remove the odd-even system for opening shops.

The LG House agreed to 50 per cent attendance in private offices but suggested that the status quo be maintained with regards to weekend curfew and opening of markets. A decision will be taken on the subject once the Covid situation improves further, it stated, as reported by news agency ANI.

Mumbai Covid Tally

Meanwhile, Mumbai on Friday reported 5008 new cases, 700 less as compared to the previous day, and 12 fresh fatalities, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.

On the other hand, all schools in Mumbai, including pre-primary classes, will reopen on January 24. On Thursday, the Maharashtra government had given its permission to reopen schools across the state on January 24 and had empowered local administrations to take a final call depending on the Covid situation in their respective jurisdictions.

However, the situation remains a concern for the southern states of Karnataka and Kerala. Karnataka recorded all-time high COVID numbers as it reported over 47,000 cases out of which 30,000 are from Bengaluru alone.

Kerala also sees a heavy caseload as it has been reported more than 40,000 cases compared to yesterday, cases have marginally come down from over 46,000 to 41,000 in the last 24 hours. Kerala government has imposed lockdown like curbs in the state on Sundays and 23rd and 30th of January will observe a complete curfew on these two days.

India reported 3.47 lakh new cases in the last 24 hours, over 29,000 more new cases compared to the day before.
