Cases Of Coronavirus Variant That Led To Covid Surge In US Rise To 26 In India

The number of cases of COVID-19's XBB.1.5 variant, which is responsible for the spike in cases in the US, has increased to 26 in India, according to INSACOG data released on Monday, news agency PTI reported.
The XBB.1.5 variation has been detected in 11 states and union territories so far, including Delhi, Maharashtra, and West Bengal, according to the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG).
The Omicron XBB variation, which is a recombinant of the Omicron BA.2.10.1 and BA.2.75 subvariants, is related to the XBB.1.5 strain. In the United States, XBB and XBB.1.5 account for 44% of all instances.
The INSACOG data also revealed that 14 instances of the BF.7 strain, which appears to be driving China's COVID-19 outbreak, were discovered in India.
Omicron sub-variant BF.7 has been recorded in four cases in West Bengal, three in Maharashtra, two each in Haryana and Gujarat, and one each in Odisha, Delhi, and Karnataka.
INSACOG reports SARS-CoV-2 genomic monitoring across the country using sequencing of samples from sentinel locations and overseas travellers arriving in India.
According to Union Health Ministry data released on Monday, India recorded 114 new coronavirus infections, while the number of current cases fell to 2,119.
The total value of the Covid cases was 4.46 crore (4,46,81,154).
The dead toll now stands at 5,30,726 according to figures updated at 8 a.m.
According to the government, the national COVID-19 recovery rate has risen to 98.8 percent.
In the last 24 hours, the active COVID-19 caseload has decreased by 30 cases.
The number of persons who have recovered from the sickness has risen to 4,41,48,309, with a case fatality rate of 1.19 percent. According to the ministry's website, the country has received 220.17 crore doses of Covid vaccine as part of the statewide immunisation campaign.
