GTA 6 Leak: Undeterred Rockstar Says Development Will Continue ‘As Planned’

GTA 6 leaks were said to be “extremely” disappointing, but Rockstar Games appear to hold steady.

GTA 6, the much-awaited upcoming instalment in Rockstar Games’ mega-popular Grand Theft Auto franchise, saw a major leak over the weekend, where dozens of video clips were released on fan-dedicated platform GTAForums. The videos revealed a lot of details on the upcoming game, such as the introduction of a female protagonist, a Vice City-based map, and NPC interactions, among others. While the leaks sent a fresh wave of excitement down fan forums, they could have proven detrimental to the development of GTA 6, possibly delaying the release window. Thankfully, that doesn’t appear to be the case this time around. 

In its response, Rockstar attributed “network intrusion” by a third party as the cause behind the leak. “We recently suffered a network intrusion in which an unauthorised third party illegally accessed and downloaded confidential information from our systems, including early development footage for the next Grand Theft Auto,” the New York City-based developer said in a statement.

Despite worries that the leak might delay the release of GTA 6, Rockstar assured that it doesn’t anticipate any “disruption” to the development on its ongoing projects as well as live game services. 

Rockstar added, “We are extremely disappointed to have any details of our next game shared with you all in this way. Our work on the next Grand Theft Auto game will continue as planned and we remain as committed as ever to delivering an experience to you, our players, that truly exceeds your expectations.” Rockstar said that it will “properly introduce” GTA 6 when it is ready. 

The GTA 6 leaks confirmed a lot of developments that have been going around the rumour mill for some time now. The leaked video clips showed gameplay featuring a male as well as a female protagonist, falling in line with previous leaks. The name of the female protagonist is tipped to be LUCIA, who could be of Latin American origin, going by the leaks.
