Battlegrounds Mobile India Bans Nearly 45,000 Accounts For Cheating, Identifies Twitter Login Issue

BGMI developer Krafton regularly bans accounts found using illegal methods to gain an unfair advantage.

New Delhi: Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), the popular battle royale mobile game, banned nearly 45,000 accounts for cheating in a fresh round of sanctions. South Korea-based developer Krafton regularly bans BGMI accounts that are found cheating to gain an unfair advantage over other players. The fresh round of sanctions was imposed between May 2 and May 8. Separately, Krafton said that it has identified players are facing login issues due to a problem with Twitter. A fix is said to be underway.

On May 9, a notice on the official BGMI website announced that a total of 44,616 accounts were permanently banned in the latest round of sanctions. Such accounts usually get flagged for downloading the game via unofficial channels, or for using illegal apps on devices to cheat against other players. Players can also use modified files or banned scripts to modify their game and cheat their way to victory. Krafton also lets players flag instances of cheating spotted within the game.

On May 9, Krafton reported an issue with BGMI user logins. On Tuesday, an updated notice said that the root cause of the problem has been identified. Krafton said, “It is identified that the issue is due to the problem of Twitter app itself, not Battlegrounds Mobile India game.”

The developer said that a fix is underway and users will be notified “promptly.”

BGMI is a rebranded version of PUBG Mobile, which was banned by the Government of India back in 2020 along with 117 other Chinese apps. PUBG Mobile was eventually rebranded as Battlegrounds Mobile India and was relaunched in the country in 2021.
