Vaibhavi Upadhyaya Death: SP Kullu Says The Actor Got Injured While Trying To Get Out Through Window

Vaibhavi Upadhyaya tragically passed away at the age of 32 in a car accident.

New Delhi: Vaibhavi Upadhyaya, known for her role in the popular television series 'Sarabhai Vs. Sarabhai', tragically passed away at the age of 32 in a car accident. On Wednesday at 11 a.m., the actor's last rites were performed in Mumbai as family, friends, and colleagues bid her farewell.

In the Banjar region of Kullu, close to Sidhwan, Upadhyaya's SUV fell into a gorge, leading to her death on Monday. The crash happened as the car's driver was navigating a sharp curve.

"Vaibhavi tried to get out of the vehicle through the window and sustained a head injury which proved fatal. She was rushed to Banjar Civil Hospital where the doctors declared her dead," SP Kullu Sakshi Verma told PTI.

After a postmortem, the body was handed over to her brother Ankit. The car's driver survived the collision with only minor injuries. Investigation is currently underway into a case of rash and reckless driving risking life, according to the police.

Around 1 pm on Wednesday, the actor's final rituals were conducted in a crematorium in Mumbai's district of Borivali.

"Apart from Vaibhavi's family members, including her parents, brother, sister and her fiance, friends from the industry were also present," 'Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai' producer J D Majethia told PTI.

Akangsha Rawat, an actor who is close to Vaibhavi, said to ETimes that she got engaged to Jay on February 14.

"Vaibhavi and I had auditioned for a TV show Solah Singaar in 2006. That was my first show and I had met Vaibhavi then. She and I connected and became best friends later. I had texted her just a few days ago, when she took this road trip and had asked her about her marriage plans, since she just got engaged recently. She got engaged to Jay on February 14 It was not an elaborate affair, just the two families exchanged 'gol-dhana' according to Gujarati customs and rituals,” she was quoted.

Vaibhavi had also worked in TV shows, including 'CID' and 'Adaalat'. She made her film debut with Deepika Padukone's 2020 film 'Chhapaak'.
