Drugs Case: Bharti Singh & Haarsh Limbachiyaa filed bail pleas through their lawyer after a Mumbai Court remanded them to judicial custody till December 4.

New Delhi: A Mumbai court on Sunday (November 22) sent comedienne Bharti Singh and her husband Haarsh Limbachiya to judicial custody till December 4 in a drugs related case. The Narcotics Control Bureau arrested the couple for allegedly possessing and consuming banned drug under various sections of the NDPS Act. While Bharti was arrested on Saturday evening, the NCB nabbed her husband on Sunday after a long interrogation. Their lawyer Ayaz Khan filed bail applications after the court passed the order. The hearing for their bail pleas will take place on Monday (November 23). The NCB recovered 86.5 grams of cannabis from Bharti and Harsh Limbachiyaa's house in Andheri during their raid, a report in ANI said. The couple was summoned for questioning after the drugs law enforcement agency seized drugs from their residence in Mumbai. They filed bail please through their advocate Ayaz Khan after being remanded to judicial custody till December 4. Bharti and and Haarsh, who tied the knot on December 3, 2017, have been booked under various sections of the NDPS Act including 20(b)(ii)(A) (involves small quantity of drugs) and 8(c) (possession of drugs) and 27 (consumption of drugs). "Under these sections, the punishment is six months to one year. This is not a case where the accused needs to be kept behind bars. I am surprised that the NCB is taking such an action of arrest in cases where the quantity (seized) is less than the prescribed small quantity," their lawyer told PTI. The NCB conducted a raid at Bharti's house after receiving specific information from the drug peddlers, who were arrested on Friday. The agency has intensified its probe into the alleged use of drugs in the film and TV industry after it received official communication from the Enforcement Directorate to pursue a drug angle in Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death case. Bharti Singh is a popular name in the TV industry. She has worked in several hit comedy shows including 'Comedy Nights Bachao', 'Comedy Circus' and 'The Kapil Sharma Show'. The 36-year-old comedienne and her hubby hosted the dance reality show 'India's Best Dancer', which aired its grand finale episode on Sunday. The NCB had arrested SSR's girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik Chakraborty and several drug peddlers under various sections of the NDPS Act. Last month, the Bombay Hight Court granted bailed to Rhea on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh. She came out of Mumbai's Byculla Jail after spending 28 days in custody. While the Bombay HC granted bail to the 'Chehre' actress, her brother's bail plea was rejected by the court. Stay tuned for more updates!
