Chef Vikas Khanna Defends Gaurav Khanna Amid Dessert Plagiarism Claims On Celebrity MasterChef

Celebrity MasterChef judge Vikas Khanna has stepped in to defend actor Gaurav Khanna after the latter came under fire for reportedly copying a dessert showcased on the cooking reality show.

Vikas, who was visibly impressed by Gaurav’s creation during the episode aired on April 7, took to social media to express his support and silence the trolls.

Vikas, who was visibly impressed by Gaurav’s creation during the episode aired on April 7, took to social media to express his support and silence the trolls. 

Sharing a clip from the show on Instagram, Vikas wrote, “Very rarely you witness Culinary Greatness like this one. I have to admit that this year’s MasterChef was next level benchmark for us. I only wish every celebrity contestants the very best.” Host Farah Khan also commented on his post, writing, “Truly 🔥.”

Vikas Khanna backs Gaurav Khanna

Addressing the plagiarism accusations more directly, Vikas posted on his Instagram stories, “For all those who are commenting on the brilliant dish made by @gauravkhannaofficial please let me know which chef created it first in the world. Meringue dripping cones have been done for decades. It was the overall flavour profile and presentation that shook us.”  

Gaurav later reshared this story on his own page, acknowledging the chef’s backing. 

About the controversy

The controversy erupted shortly after Sony TV dropped a promo for the April 7 episode of Celebrity MasterChef. The teaser showed Gaurav Khanna presenting a dessert that wowed both Vikas Khanna and Ranveer Brar. However, viewers were quick to point out its resemblance to a dish called the “Honey Dripping Dessert” by Swiss chef Dives Josh. 

Adding to the buzz, Dives shared the promo clip on his Instagram stories with a sarcastic caption, “well done, so creative…😛,” as reported by TOI. He also uploaded a video of his own dessert and labelled it “the original,” further fuelling the online backlash. 

Gaurav Khanna is one of the top finalists on the show, competing alongside Faisal Shaikh, Nikki Tamboli, Rajiv Adatia, and Tejasswi Prakash. Celebrity MasterChef airs on Sony TV from Monday to Friday at 8 PM and is also available to stream on SonyLIV.
