Thalapathy Vijay Starrer Ghilli Breaks Box Office Records Of Sholay, Avatar To Become Highest Grossing Re-Release Film

New Delhi: 'Ghilli' has re-released in theatres once again. Thalapathy Vijay and Trisha Krishnan starrer 'Ghilli' is a romantic sports actioner that has topped box office charts upon re-release. Skyrocketing the careers of the likes of Vijay, Trisha Krishnana, 'Ghilli' re-released in theatres to mark its 20th anniversary. 'Ghilli' has collected Rs. 20. cr in the domestic market.

'Ghilli' completes 20 years on April 20, 2024. Upon re-release, the film received a massive response from audiences all over again. In fact, 'Ghilli' has broken box office records and collected approximately Rs. 20 cr in the domestic market in just nine days of release, industry tracker Sacnilk.com reported.
In fact, 'Ghilli' has become the highest grossing re-release film in India in the 21st century, Sacnilk reported.
'Ghilli' has thus broken the record of director James Cameron's science fiction film 'Avatar' which collectes Rs. 18 cr when it was re-released in 2012 in India. 'Sholay' collected Rs. 13 cr upon its re-release in 2013 and 'Ghilli' incidently becoming the highest grossing re-release film in 2024.
'Ghilli' has also become the fourth-highest grossing Tamil film of 2024 at the domestic box office. The film is now behind 'Captain Miller', 'Ayalaan' and 'Lal Salaam'.

On its opening day, 'Ghilli' collected Rs. 8 cr worldwide, Pinkvilla reported, with Rs. 4.75 cr solely from the domestic market. Interestingly, the Vijay film collected more than Rajinikanth's 'Lal Salaam'. Directed by Rajinikanth's daughter Aishwarya, the film collected Rs. 3.55 crore in India on the opening day.
Vijay, Trisha, Prakash Raj, Ashish Vidyarthi, Janaki Sabesh, Dhamu and Tanikella Bharani also starred in 'Ghilli'.
'Ghilli' is a film about a Kabbadi player goes to Madurai to participate in a match, but gets caught up in rescuing a woman from a gang leader who is obsessed with her.
