Tollywood producer Sunkara Krishna Prasad Chowdary, better known as KP Chowdary, tragically took his own life in Goa on Monday. Chowdary was widely recognised for producing 'Kabali', starring superstar Rajinikanth.

In 2023, he was arrested by the Cyberabad Special Operations Team in connection with a drug trafficking case. Investigations revealed that he had clients across both the Tollywood and Kollywood film industries, as well as business circles. Faced with a lack of work and growing debts, he allegedly became involved in the drug trade, which included supplying drugs to celebrities, particularly through his venture, the OHM pub in Goa.

The Goa Police, in their preliminary investigation, confirmed that Chowdary had been grappling with depression and financial difficulties in the aftermath of his arrest. Despite his troubles, he continued to work in the entertainment industry, but his mental and emotional struggles seemed to have taken a toll.
