The wait is finally over — Mohanlal is officially stepping back into the shoes of Georgekutty for 'Drishyam 3', with the makers confirming an October theatrical release. The announcement was made with a sleek teaser launched via Aashirvaad Cinemas’ YouTube channel and shared across social media platforms by the Malayalam superstar himself.
The upcoming thriller marks the return of director Jeethu Joseph, who helmed the first two installments, and producer Anthony Perumbavoor, continuing their long-standing collaboration on the franchise.
Drishyam 3 teaser
The 40-second teaser opens with an intense close-up of Mohanlal, slipping seamlessly back into the role of the calculating yet protective Georgekutty — a man who has repeatedly outwitted the system to shield his family. It also offers a glimpse behind the scenes, showing the trio — Mohanlal, Joseph, and Perumbavoor — in discussion, hinting at the high-stakes drama in store. A simple but effective tagline flashes across the screen: “Lights, camera, October.”
Fans flooded the teaser with excitement and nostalgia. One viewer wrote, “A classic criminal is back,” while another chimed in with, “Industry hit loading.”
About Drishyam
The Drishyam legacy began in 2013 with the original Malayalam film, which earned over ₹62 crore worldwide and quickly achieved cult status. The gripping narrative and Mohanlal’s powerhouse performance sparked a wave of remakes across languages and countries. From Drushyam in Telugu to Papanasam in Tamil, and Drishyam in Hindi, the story transcended linguistic boundaries. The franchise even found international appeal, with versions made in Sinhala, Chinese (Sheep Without a Shepherd), Indonesian, and Korean cinema.
Arguably, the most commercially successful adaptation has been the Hindi version starring Ajay Devgn. The 2015 remake grossed nearly ₹200 crore globally, while the 2023 sequel soared to almost ₹350 crore, cementing Drishyam as a cross-cultural phenomenon.
Back in the Malayalam industry, Mohanlal has kept busy. His recent film 'Thudarum' received strong audience appreciation, with many drawing parallels to 'Drishyam'. The actor also made his directorial debut with 'Barroz', a fantasy drama that unfortunately didn’t strike gold at the box office.
