Kannappa OTT Release: Vishnu Manchu’s Mythological Epic To Stream On THIS Date

Vishnu Manchu's mythological epic Kannappa may release on Amazon Prime Video on July 25, less than a month after its theatrical debut.

Vishnu Manchu's highly anticipated mythological drama Kannappa, which hit theatres on June 27, continues to make headlines—this time for its possible digital debut. The film, featuring an ensemble cast including Akshay Kumar, Prabhas, Mohanlal, Kajal Aggarwal, and Vishnu Manchu himself, has been lauded for its powerful storytelling and grand visuals. Now, just weeks after its theatrical premiere, reports suggest the film might soon arrive on Amazon Prime Video.

OTT Release Before Promised Window?

According to entertainment portal 123Telugu, Kannappa is expected to begin streaming on Amazon Prime Video starting July 25. If confirmed, this would place the film's OTT launch less than a month post its theatrical release. This is in contrast to what Vishnu Manchu earlier stated during a pre-release event. At the time, he had made it clear that the OTT rights were deliberately withheld to allow the film a longer run in cinemas.

"I have a very large freedom; my movie will not come to OTT before 10 weeks. That is the deal I have, and by God’s grace, I don’t have any release pressure. My only intention is to showcase the best to the audience," Vishnu had said, according to India Today.

Kannappa: A Star-Studded Mythological Film

Kannappa tells the tale of Thinnadu, a fierce tribal hunter and atheist whose life changes after discovering a Shiva Lingam in the forest. Vishnu Manchu portrays the title role of Bhaktha Kannappa, the warrior-turned-devotee of Lord Shiva. The film also features Akshay Kumar as Lord Shiva, Prabhas as Rudra, and Mohanlal in a striking cameo as Kirata.

The film has been praised for both its visual richness and spiritual depth. Released in five languages—Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi—Kannappa brings alive an age-old legend for a modern audience.

Produced under the banners of Twenty-Four Frames Factory and AVA Entertainment, the film has made headlines not just for its scale but also for its unique release strategy. While the reported OTT date suggests a shift from the original plan, no official confirmation has been issued by the makers or Prime Video yet.
