Veteran Kannada Actor Sarigama Viji Passes Away At 77
The Kannada film industry is mourning the loss of veteran actor Sarigama Viji, who passed away on Wednesday at the age of 77.
New Delhi: The 77-year-old Kannada actor R Vijaykumar, better known by his stage name Sarigama Viji, has died. The actor had been receiving treatment for a lung infection at Manipal Hospital in Malleswaram, according to his son Rohit, who verified the news of his death. His health deteriorated, and he died on Wednesday from complications related to organ failure.
As reported by PTI, Sarigama Viji’s son said, "We thought it was the seasonal change of weather infection when he fell sick. But things escalated in the last seven days, and he died at about 9.30 am today due to failure of multiple organs.”
Tomorrow at noon, his last rituals will be conducted at the Chamarajpet Crematorium. His body will be on display at his Mahalakshmipuram mansion till tonight so that people can pay their respects.
His son added, "Tomorrow, Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce will be organising a public viewing at Ravindra Kalakshetra from 10.30 am to 11.30 am after that he will be cremated at Chamarajpet crematorium."

Sarigama Viji was a major player in Kannada films for about 40 years. His acting career got its start in 1980 with a little part in Geethapriya's 'Beluvalada Madilalli'. He had an unforgettable impact on the industry with his 269 film appearances and 80 films as an assistant director.
Times Now reports that among the many highlights of his career was his work with V. Somashekar, a renowned filmmaker, and famous Kannada actor Tiger Prabhakar.
