New Delhi: SS Rajamouli’s 'RRR' starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR is on a winning spree. The film has won several awards including Golden Globes 2023 for Best Original Song and Critics Choice Awards 2023 for Best Song and Best Foreign Film. The film's team has been giving interviews to the international press after the film’s achievements. In one of the interviews, Ram Charan and Jr NTR spoke about their family’s 30-year-old rivalry.
It is to be noted that while Jr NTR is the grandson of veteran actor-turned-politician N. T. Rama Rao and Ram Charan is the son of the Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi and his uncle is Pawan Kalyan. His cousins are is Allu Arjun, Varun Tej, Sai Dharam Tej, Allu Sirish and others.
Speaking about the rivalry, Ram Charan told LA Times that he and Jr NTR were tired of the rivalry news.
“The whole concept of having a rivalry brought us together. The only path we could take was friendship because we were bored of [the] news of rivalry for more than three decades,” Charan said.
Jr NTR added, “It’s simple physics, opposite poles attract. Charan gets attracted to what he doesn’t have in him. And I get attracted to what I don’t attain in myself, so we look up to each other. It’s a support system. We complement each other, and we can share a few secrets that will never get out.”
Earlier while speaking with DP/30 series hosted by David Poland, Charan had said, “A sense of brotherhood and camaraderie is there, but obviously, there is a healthy competition. I have seven actors in my family, and once the party is over, once the festival is over, even my cousins and I are competitive. Obviously, with NTR also, there is a sense of competition. Our families have been known as arch-rivals in the film industry for 20-30 years. His grandfather, and my father… It was like we were arch-rival families…”
“This was the most intriguing part for people in India, that Rajamouli got these two buddies, who are from these families… We’ve known each other for 15-odd years. And there was so much negative press around the two families. There’s only one way to go, which is to make and create a better bond from there. It couldn’t get more negative for both the families, so we both decided to turn it around, because we were both hearing that,” he added.
'RRR' is a fictional story based on the lives of two Telugu freedom fighters, Allu Seetharama Raju and Komaram Bheem.
