New Delhi: The first song from Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus 'Ponniyin Selvan I', Kaveri Se Milne, was released on Sunday. The song features Karthi riding a horse. The song has been composed and sung by AR Rahman, Swagat Rathod, and Pooja Tiwari.
The song has been released in five languages and is titled 'Kaveri Se Milne' in Hindi, 'Ponge Nadhi' in Telugu, and 'Ponni Nadhi' in Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. The Hindi lyrics have been written by Mehboob. The Tamil version of the song has been sung by Rahman, AR Raihanah, and Bamba Bakya with lyrics by Ilango Krishnan.
The song is an ode to the river Kaveri and the video shows Karthi’s character riding across the Chola empire.
Karthi shared the Tamil version of the song on Twitter and wrote “When I heard this song for the very first time, I felt as if I was riding into the Chola Kingdom! Pure magic! Join me in this journey.”
All about Ponniyin Selvan I
The teaser of the film was launched less than a month ago. More than a minute-long teaser shows larger-than-life war sequences, ravishing Aishwarya, magnificent Chiyaan Vikram, and more. The film revolves around the power struggle of the Chola empire during the 10th century.
While Karthi is playing the Chola army commander Vanthiyathevan, Vikram is essaying the role of Aditya Karikalan and Jayaram Ravi will be seen as Arunmozhi Varman AKA Raja Raja Cholan.
Aishwarya Rai will be essaying the role of Queen Nandini while Trisha will be seen as Princess Kundavai.
Touted as one of the most expensive Indian films, the first part of the film will release on September 30.
The film, based on the classic Tamil novel of the same name written by Kalki Krishnamoorthy, will release in five languages -- Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.
Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies are jointly producing the film. The music is composed by AR Rahman while the cinematography is by Ravi Varman. National Award-winning art director Thotta Tharani is in charge of production design while Sreekar Prasad is the editor.
