A veteran theatre personality, Swaroopa Ghosh ventured into films in the later phase of her life, getting her break into Bollywood with 'Vicky Donor', after which there was no looking back.
Sharing her journey from theatre to films, Swaroopa told ABP Live, "It just happened. The casting director of Shoojit Sircar's film was an old friend who had shifted to Mumbai. Years later when he arrived in Delhi to cast for 'Vicky Donor', he wanted me to audition and I bagged the role. After that I did 3 films of Shoojit and an ad film which sort of opened the doors of Mumbai film industry for me. However, the shift came gradually after that."
The initial days in Bollywood is a struggle for most actors and so was it for Swaroopa as well.
Talking about her jjourney so far, Ghosh said, "It's definitely a struggle, because I shifted at an age when people are generally settled and making retirement plans in their profession. Changing profession when one has crossed 50 is not quite wise, as the roles are limited and financially not always viable. There's always a sense of insecurity. So yes, it's not been bed of roses, but I don't complain. I would say Mumbai has been kind to me as I still get work."
Swaroopa Ghosh fetched the limelight after her role in Deepika Padukone-starrer 'Piku' and those scenes have remained memorable for the audience till date.
She, too, considers 'Piku' a turning point in her career saying, "Sharing screen with legends like Amitabh Bachchan, Irfaan Khan, Moushumi Chatterjee and a star like Deepika Padukone and to hold on my own was definitely an experience. It gave me confidence and I learnt a lot."
