Imtiaz Ali Shares He Would Have Cast Kapil Sharma If Diljit Dosanjh Said No To 'Amar Singh Chamkila'

New Delhi: The latest episode of comedian-actor Kapil Sharma's show The Great Indian Kapil show was graced by the 'Chamkila' cast including actors Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra accompanied by director Imtiaz Ali. The cast of 'Amar Singh Chamkila' arrived for their film's promotion that released on Netflix on April 12 and has been garnering widespread acclamation ever since its release on the streaming platform.

Kapil Sharma recently shared a behind-the-scenes video from the show, shedding light on how he missed out on an opportunity to collaborate with AR Rahman for the movie.

Kapil Sharma on missing chance to work in Amar Singh Chamkila

In the BTS clip, Kapil revealed that he missed a call from AR Rahman, who composed the film's music, as he was overseas. Recounting the incident, Kapil shared, "I met Rahman sir one day, and he mentioned, 'I called you for Chamkila.' I believe he wanted me to sing a song or something. I thought he was just being kind to me."

Imtiaz intervened, admitting that Rahman had mentioned Kapil's singing skills to him. Kapil continued, "He mentioned this to me seriously. I told him, 'Sir, we were overseas, which is why we couldn't connect." Reflecting on missing the chance to collaborate with AR Rahman, Kapil humorously said, "I felt really bad; I cried the whole night. It was unfortunate."

Imtiaz added, "But Rahman sir mentioned that if Diljit couldn't do this film, we had only one other choice, which was you."

Kapil Sharma has showcased his acting skills in films like "Zwigato" and the recent "Crew." He is renowned for his melodious voice and has even released a music video titled "Alone" with Guru Randhawa.

About Amar Singh Chamkila

Imtiaz Ali's latest directorial venture 'Amar Singh Chamkila' is based on the life of the popular Punjabi singer and his wife Amarjot, who rose to immense fame during the 1980s. Their lives came to a tragic end after being shot dead at the tender age of 27 in Punjab.

Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, who play the lead characters in the film, have been garnering immense praise for emulating the characters of Chamkila and Amarjot to utmost perfection.
