Veteran Actress Deepti Naval Undergoes Angioplasty At Mohali Hospital; Likely To Get Discharged Soon

New Delhi: Deepti Naval who made her acting debut with Shyam Benegal’s movie ‘Junoon’ in the year 1978 underwent angioplasty at the Fortis hospital in Mohali early Tuesday. Based on a report of IANS, the ‘Chashme Buddoor’ actress suffered the first heart attack on Sunday and was bought to the hospital in a cardiac care ambulance late Monday.

The actress has been staying at her cottage in Manali for quite some time now. A doctor told IANS, “Her condition was stable and will likely be discharged soon.”
Deepti Naval became a prominent name in 1980s parallel cinema alongside Smita Patil and Shabana Azmi with her performances in films like ‘Kamla’ and ‘Ankahee’. She has won Best Actress Awards in several international film festivals for her roles in ‘Leela’, ‘Memories in March’ and ‘Listen... Amaya’. She also appeared in one of the episodes of Zoya Akhtar’s popular web series ‘Made In Heaven’ in 2019.
The ‘Mukti Bandhan’ actress made her directorial debut with the movie ‘Do Paise Ki Dhoop, Chaar Aane Ki Baarish’ starring Manisha Koirala and Rajit Kapoor which won the Best Screenplay Award at the New York Indian Film Festival in the year 2009. This film has released on Netflix in the year 2019.
Deepti Naval also keeps interest in painting and photography with several exhibitions to her credit. Her works as a painter include the controversial ‘Pregnant Nun’.
She was married to director Prakash Jha and the couple has an adopted daughter named Disha. She was later in a relationship with the nephew of Pandit Jasraj, late Vinod Pandit. She also runs a charitable trust set up in Vinod Pandit’s memory.
Deepti Naval’s ‘close to life’ and sensitive characters emphasized the changing roles of women in India.
