The film, also starring Anubhav Singh Bassi, Dimple Kapadia and Boney Kapoor, is about a couple who fall in love on a holiday and when they are all set to marry, the girl (played by Shraddha Kapoor) wants to breakup with the boy (Ranbir Kapoor) without being the one to actually walk out of the relationship.
Ranbir Kapoor, who was done with rom-com, told PTI that he couldn't let go of the idea that Luv narrated to him. It was the writer-director's ''twisted'' writing that appealed to him.
''We were doing another film with Ajay Devgn, but the dates did not match, and it kept getting postponed. At that time, he narrated 'Tu Jhoothi...' to me, and I was done with rom-coms. I told him I've too many of these and it's a difficult genre to crack. But when he narrated this film, what was in his writing, he is 'tedha' (twisted) in the way he thinks, his dialogues, relationship dynamics, really appealed to me. It was something new,'' he said.
While talking about her role in the film, Shraddha Kapoor told PTI, “It’s such a different character from what I’ve played in ‘Aashiqui 2’ and other films after that. She is a girl who is more in charge, she is on the front foot and is confident. For me, it was refreshing to play a character who says what she feels. She is a girl-next-door with some ‘tadka (spice)’. It was a first for me.”
