Under Attack From BMC, Actor Sonu Sood Meets NCP Chief Sharad Pawar

Bollywood actor Sonu Sood had moved the Bombay High Court to challenge BMC's notice.

Bollywood actor Sonu Sood, who received a notice from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) over alleged illegal construction at his residence, met NCP Chief Sharad Pawar on Wednesday (January 13). Last week, the 'Simmba' actor filed an application before the Bombay High Court, challenging the notice issued by the BMC in October 2020 and an order passed by a civil court, which dismissed his suit against the BMC's action. The court had granted interim protection to Sood's building against BMC's demolition action till January 13. In its affidavit filed before the Bombay HC, the civic body called the 'Dabangg' star a 'habitual offender' and accused him of carrying out unauthorised work at his residential building. The BMC filed the affidavit in response to the petition filed by the actor. "The appellant is a habitual offender and wants to enjoy the commercial proceeds of the unauthorised work and therefore once again started reconstructing the demolished portion in order to make it operational as a hotel albeit illegally and without permission from the License department," BMC said in its affidavit, as per a report in PTI. In the affidavit, BMC alleged that the Bollywood star was trying to protect an "ex-facie illegal commercial hotel" which has been modified by him contrary to the sanctioned building plan. In its notice, the BMC had alleged that Sonu carried out structural changes in his Shakti Sagar building and he didn't take the required permission for the development work. On the professional front, Sonu Sood has several films including 'Prithviraj', 'Thamilarasan' and 'Acharya' in pipeline. He will share screen space with Akshay Kumar and Sanjay Dutt in YRF's 'Prithviraj'. Sonu Sood emerged as the 'Messiah of migrant workers' as it helped them reach their homes during the COVID-19 lockdown. He received praises from all the corners for his noble act.
