The epic was brought to life under the inspired direction of Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the extravagant production design, which captivated audiences across the globe. All three of these actors received acclaim for their roles: Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati, Ranveer Singh as the villain Khilji, and Shahid Kapoor as Raja Ratan Singh. The 2018 film also stars notable actors Jim Sarbh, Anupriya Goenka, Raza Murad and Aditi Rao Hydari.

It became the third highest-grossing film of the year in India, even though it was banned from several areas due to controversy surrounding its content.

The film depicts the story of Queen Padmavati, who was known for her stunning good looks and her fearless resistance to Sultan Alauddin Khilji. It is based on the poetry of Malik Muhammad Jayasi.

‘Padmaavat’ became the third film that Bhansali worked with stars Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’ (2013) and ‘Bajirao Mastani’ (2015) were the previous collaborations between the three.

Bhansali's next film is ‘Love & War’, starring Vicky Kaushal, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt.
