Padma Awards 2025: On the eve of Republic Day, the 2025 Padma Awards were unveiled, honouring 139 individuals for their outstanding contributions across various fields. Among the recipients are late musicians Sharda Sinha and Pankaj Udhas, Tamil cinema legend Ajith Kumar, Telugu star Nandamuri Balakrishna, renowned filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, and celebrated singer Arijit Singh.
Padma Vibhushan to Sharda Sinha, Vasudevan Nair
Folk music icon Sharda Sinha and acclaimed Malayalam director-screenwriter M T Vasudevan Nair were posthumously awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the nation's second-highest civilian distinction, in recognition of their extraordinary service and achievements.
Pankaj Udhas, Ajith Kumar, Nandamuri Balakrishna get Padma Bhushan
Ghazal legend Pankaj Udhas was also posthumously bestowed with the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest honor, alongside Ajith Kumar, Shekhar Kapur, Telugu actor Nandamuri Balakrishna, veteran actor Anant Nag, and the versatile Bharatnatyam dancer-actress Shobana.
Padma Shri to Arijit Singh, Ricky Kej
Arijit Singh, along with renowned figures like actor Ashok Saraf, theatre pioneer Barry John, singer Jaspinder Narula, and Grammy-winning musician Ricky Kej, will receive the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award.

The Padma Awards, India's most prestigious civilian honors, are bestowed in three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. This year's list features numerous prominent figures from various fields.
This year’s list includes seven Padma Vibhushan, 19 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri awards. Among the honorees, 23 are women, and there are 10 foreign nationals, NRIs, PIOs, and OCIs. Additionally, 13 recipients have been awarded posthumously. As tradition dictates, the Padma Awards are announced annually on the eve of Republic Day.
The Padma Awards recognise excellence across multiple areas, including the arts, social service, public affairs, science and technology, commerce and industry, healthcare, literature and education, sports, and civil services.
