Kangana Ranaut, Prasoon Joshi Among 61 Personalities Write Open Letter Against 'Selective Outrage'
This letter comes in reply to a letter written by a group of 49 eminent personalities, including filmmakers, authors and actors, who wrote to the prime minister on Tuesday.
NEW DELHI: Kangana Ranaut, lyricist and Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chief Prasoon Joshi, and filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar were among 61 personalities who penned an open letter voicing their objections against what they claim is a "false narrative" and selective outrage.
This letter comes in reply to a letter written by a group of 49 eminent personalities, including filmmakers, authors and actors, who wrote to the prime minister on Tuesday, expressing concern over the recent instances of mob violence and lynching in the country. The signatories had said that they regretted that "Jai Shri Ram" has been reduced to a "provocative war cry that leads to law and order problems, and lynchings take place in its name".
The letter says "It is aimed at tarnishing India’s international standing and to negatively portray Prime Minister Modi’s untiring efforts to effectuate governance on the foundations of positive nationalism and humanism which is the core of INDIANNESS." "An open letter which has been published on July 23 2019, and addressed to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has astonished us. Forty nine self-styled 'guardians' and conscience keepers' of the nation... have expressed selective concern and demonstrated a clear political bias and motive," the letter further states. The new letter is signed by classical dancer and MP Sonal Mansingh, Instrumentalist Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Filmmakers Madhur Bhandarkar and Vivek Agnihotri.
