Ground Zero Day 1 Box Office Collection: Emraan Hashmi’s Film Opens To Applause BUT With Empty Seats

Ground Zero Day 1 Box Office Collection: The Emraan Hashmi-starrer, despite positive reviews from critics, has underperformed at the box office.

New Delhi: After much anticipation and critical acclaim, Emraan Hashmi's 'Ground Zero' opened to a poor start at the box office on April 24. The film had a riveting plot about a BSF officer's quest to find the person responsible for the 2001 Parliament and Akshardham assaults, but it failed to impress with its opening day collections.

'Ground Zero', which was directed by Tejas Prabha Vijay Deoskar, earned only ₹1 crore on its opening day, with an occupancy rate of only 8.63% in national theatres, as reported by trade tracker Sacnilk. The figures for night shows increased a little, reaching 14.06%, suggesting that word-of-mouth may be providing some support.

The makers are hoping that the favourable buzz will help it expand at the weekend box office. But it seems like the film's initial appeal was affected by the lack of hype around it before its release.

With its modest audience participation, 'Ground Zero' trails behind films like 'Superboys of Malegaon' (₹50 lakh), but it's still not enough to compete with hits like 'Loveyapa' (₹1.15 crore) and 'Azaad' (₹1.5 crore).

'Ground Zero' Competition

Similar to the success of another patriotic film, 'The Diplomat', which debuted at ₹4 crore and maintained public attention, 'Ground Zero', with a strong ensemble cast comprising Sai Tamhankar, Mukesh Tiwari, Zoya Hussain, Mir Mohammed Mehroos, and Deepak Paramesh, might potentially turn things around. But with Ajay Devgn's 'Raid 2' releasing on May 1 and 'Kesari: Chapter 2' already attracting people, 'Ground Zero' may have trouble breaking even.

As per ABPLive review of 'Ground Zero': This film, starring Emraan Hashmi, merely narrates a story that many already know but doesn't make you feel it. Unlike emotionally charged films like 'Uri', 'Haider', 'The Kashmir Files', or even 'Mission Kashmir' this one falls disappointingly flat.
