New Delhi: Om Raut's Adipurush's box office seems to have suffered amid harsh criticism, protests, and restrictions. Prabhas starrer 'Adipurush' only brought in 20 crore on Monday, which is frequently seen as the actual barometer of a movie's popularity with viewers.

The movie lost money on Monday after earning 220 crore in India over the weekend, according to a report in Sacnilk. On Friday, it brought in 86 crore, followed by 65 crore on Saturday, and 69 crore on Sunday. Globally, it had brought in 340 crore. The worldwide figures for Monday are not out yet.

Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh announced the film's 'Crash' on social media. He wrote, "THE NEGATIVE WORD OF MOUTH HAS COME INTO PLAY…
After a strong opening weekend, #Adipurush COLLAPSES on Monday.
#Hindi version. #India biz."

All Hindi films have been banned in Nepal as a result of the protests that were sparked by Adipurush, a magnificent multilingual retelling of the Ramayana. Mumbai Police complied with Manoj Muntashir Shukla's request to provide security for him as the conflict around the movie grew more heated and viewers in various areas of Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Delhi flocked to the streets.

Seers in Ayodhya demanded an immediate ban on "Adipurush" saying its dialogues made their "blood boil" as different parts of Uttar Pradesh witnessed protests against the film on Monday. A group of people staged a protest in Varanasi and tore posters of the film and the Hindu Mahasabha lodged a complaint with the Lucknow police against its makers and actors. A Hindu outfit also staged a protest outside a theatre in the temple town of Mathura.

In response to the film's negative reviews, director Om Raut stated that Ramayan is "impossible" for anyone to fully understand and that those who claim to do so are "either fools or liars." The movie, which is based on the 'Ramayana', stars Prabhas as Raghava, Kriti Sanon as Janaki, and Saif Ali Khan as Lankesh.
