Adipurush Director Om Raut Reacts To Backlash, Says People Claiming To Understand Ramayana Are "Fools"
Director Om Raut stated that Ramayan is "impossible" for anyone to fully understand.
New Delhi: Om Raut's 'Adipurush' has received criticism for its dialogue; therefore, the film's production team also stated that they would be changing the movie's language. In response to the film's negative reviews, director Om Raut stated that Ramayan is "impossible" for anyone to fully understand and that those who claim to do so are "either fools or liars."
In an interview with Republic World, Om Raut spoke candidly about how the movie went down, saying,"Ramayana is so large that it is impossible for anybody, A: to understand, if they say that they understand Ramayana they are fools or they are lying, one of the two. Number two, whatever Ramayan that we have seen before on television, something that I have grown up watching is a much larger format. What is Adipurush? We are not calling it Ramayan. We are calling it Adipurush because it is one section within the Ramayan. It is the Yuddha Kaand that we are trying to show. Again I will say that is a small portion within that Yuddha Kaand."
Sunil Lahri, who is well known for playing Lakshman in Ramanand Sagar's 'Ramayan', recently criticised the Prabhas and Kriti Sanon film. The actor posted a video on Instagram after seeing the film in which he expressed his disappointment.
In the brief clip posted on Monday, Sunil Lahri says in Hindi, “I had high expectations from Adipurush that I will get to see something different but it is very disappointing. You can't play with your culture in the name of doing something different, especially those who are our own. The characters are not defined. The audience doesn't find any emotional attachment with the scenes. In fact the dialogues are also very bekaar (poor)."
Despite getting negative reviews, Om Raut's 'Adipurush' is doing well at the box office. The movie, which is based on the 'Ramayana', stars Prabhas as Raghava, Kriti Sanon as Janaki, and Saif Ali Khan as Lankesh. It was released to a blockbuster response and mixed reviews on June 16.
