‘KGF 2’ To ‘Laxmmi Bomb’: 10 Indian Films That Were Sold to OTT At Record Price

Even after the opening of movie halls, filmmakers closed deals with OTT platforms for whopping amounts for immediate screening of the films after theatrical release.

According to recent reports, ‘KGF Chapter 2’s OTT rights have been acquired by a popular OTT platform for around Rs 320 crore. The Yash starrer has created a record in terms of OTT deals.

Here are a few films that were sold to OTT at record prices:

‘KGF Chapter 2’ (₹320 crore)

After shattering many records, the Yash starrer has created a record in terms of OTT deals. According to a report in the Times of India, the film’s OTT rights have been acquired by a popular OTT platform for around Rs 320 crore. The film will reportedly start streaming from May 27 onwards. There has been no official confirmation on it from the makers. ‘KGF: Chapter 1’ is already streaming on Amazon Prime, and it is most likely that ‘KGF 2’ will also be streaming on the same OTT platform.

‘Laxmmi Bomb’ (₹125 crore)

Starring Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani in lead roles, ‘Laxxmi Bomb’ is the Hindi adaptation of the South Indian blockbuster ‘Kanchana’. The rights of the movie, directed by Raghava Lawrence, were sold to Disney+ Hotstar for ₹125 crore. The film didn’t get any theatrical release and was released on Disney+ Hotstar.

‘Bhuj: The Pride of India’ (₹110 crore)

Starring Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt, and Sonakshi Sinha, Bhuj: The Pride of India is set during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. The film was released on Disney+ Hotstar and its rights were reportedly bought for ₹110 crore.

‘Sadak 2’ (₹70 crore)

The sequel of the 1991 film ‘Sadak’, ‘Sadak 2’ had a lot of buzz around it as it was Mahesh Bhatt’s directorial comeback after 21 years. Starring Sanjay Dutt, Alia Bhatt, Pooja Bhatt, and Aditya Roy Kapur, the film’s rights were sold to Disney Hotstar+ for ₹70 crore.

‘Gulabo Sitabo’ (₹65 crore)

Directed by Shoojit Sircar, Gulabo Sitabo has Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana in leading roles. Set in Lucknow, the film is the tale of two men fighting over a house. Its rights were acquired by Amazon Prime for ₹65 crore.

‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’ (₹50 crore)

Based on the real-life story of Gunjan Saxena, one of the first Indian female air-force pilots in combat, the film was sold to Netflix for ₹50 crore. Directed by Sharan Sharma, the film starred Janhvi Kapoor in the leading role.

‘Shakuntala Devi’ (₹40 crore)

‘Shakuntala Devi’ traces the life of mathematician Shakuntala Devi, who was also known as the "human computer". The film was written and directed by Anu Menon. Vidya Balan played the role of Shakuntala Devi. Amazon Prime bought the rights of the film for ₹40 crore.

‘The Bigg Bull’ (₹40 crore)

Starring Abhishek Bachchan and Ileana D'Cruz, ‘The Bigg Bull’ is based on Hashad Mehta's life. The producers, Ajay and Kumar Mangat sold the rights to Disney+ Hotstar for  ₹ 40 Crore.

‘Dil Bechara’ (₹40 crore)

An official adaptation of the Hollywood film ‘The Fault In Our Stars’, ‘Dil Bechara’ is Sushant Singh Rajput's last film. The film produced by Fox Star India, was sold to Disney+ Hotstar for ₹40 crore.

‘Pushpa: The Rise’ (₹30 crore)

Allu Arjun's 'Pushpa: The Rise' was a success at the box office and broke many records. The film's streaming rights were sold to Amazon Prime for ₹30 crore.
