‘Ghosts Still Working In 2025?’ Kajol Sparks Online Debate Over Calling Ramoji Film City ‘Haunted’

Kajol is facing backlash online after calling Hyderabad’s Ramoji Film City “one of the most haunted places in the world.”

Bollywood icon Kajol has unexpectedly ignited a massive social media discussion after labelling Hyderabad's renowned Ramoji Film City as "one of the most haunted places in the world." The comment, made during promotions for her upcoming horror film Maa, saw the acclaimed actress share her personal experience with unexplainable energies and eerie locations. The video instantly went viral, sparking a heated online debate among fans.

During an interview with Galatta India, Kajol was asked about any encounters with negative energies. Her candid response quickly grabbed attention: “I have experienced this multiple times. Call it negative energy or vibes, but sometimes, when you go to a place, you feel like something isn’t right. I’ve shot at places where I couldn’t sleep all night, where I felt it would be good if I could just leave this place.”

She then cited Ramoji Film City as a prime example, stating, “There are quite a few places like that. A prime example is Ramoji Rao Studios in Hyderabad, which is considered one of the most haunted places in the world. I am lucky enough not to have seen anything (ghosts), though.”

Kajol’s Comment Triggers Social Media Storm

The comment went viral almost instantly, but not everyone was on board with the actor’s claims. Many netizens accused Kajol of promoting superstition to drum up hype for her horror movie. “Tomorrow she’ll play a scientist and say there’s nothing better than rationality,” wrote one Reddit user. Another sarcastically quipped, “Ghosts still working in 2025? That’s commitment!”

A user joked, “Imagine how much money Ramoji Group can make if they file a defamation suit on Kajol and win.”

Ramoji Film City, spanning over 2,000 acres, is one of the world’s largest integrated film studios and a major tourist attraction. For many, Kajol’s casual remark appeared to downplay the significance of the site.

As the social media storm rages on, Kajol's horror film 'Maa' is scheduled to hit theatres on June 27.
