Himayat Ali Mirza Reflects On 30 Years Of Service, Justice And Environmental Advocacy

Himayat Ali Mirza, a Hyderabad-based entrepreneur and socialist, advocates for accountability and aid following recent floods.

In the wake of Hyderabad’s recent catastrophic floods, Himayat Ali Mirza, an entrepreneur and socialist, has amplified his call for systemic accountability and humanitarian action. His recent appeal to the Prime Minister follows a consistent and decades-long commitment to social work, charity, and advocacy for a more sustainable future.

Since 1995, Mirza has dedicated his efforts to creating meaningful change, driven by a vision that spans from local community aid to pressing global issues like climate change and healthcare access.

For over 30 years, Mirza has been a steadfast force for social good, long before establishing his self-funded HM Foundation (HMF) in 2022. His work, however, is not confined to one organization. A member of several charitable organizations across India, the USA, Canada, and London, Mirza has leveraged his global footprint and extensive network for humanitarian causes.

Over the years, he has actively collaborated with global entities like UNICEF, Help Age India, the American Cancer Society, Boston Children’s Hospital Trust, and the Red Cross, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, to ensure that vulnerable communities receive timely support. Himayat Ali Mirza, who deeply admires and follows Bill Gates, is set to meet the global philanthropist soon to exchange ideas on donations, charitable initiatives, and social impact.

"My mission is simple: to use what I have—heritage, resources, or influence—for the betterment of people, for justice, and for humanity," Mirza states. This philosophy has guided his actions since the mid-1990s. Beyond providing immediate aid, his work is focused on creating a better, safer future for all, addressing issues of Climate Change and the Environment.

As an outspoken advocate for the environment, the great-grandson of the last Nizam of Hyderabad, Himayat Ali Mirza, has championed the protection of Hyderabad's reservoirs, Osmansagar and Himayatsagar, and has campaigned against pollution. His recent calls for government audits reflect a deeper understanding that environmental disasters, like the recent floods, disproportionately affect the needy and require both immediate relief and long-term preventative measures.

Recognizing that water is a basic human right, Mirza has consistently supported initiatives that promote conservation and ensure clean water access. From advocating for public institutions like Osmania General Hospital to personally funding medical treatments for the poor through HMF, Mirza has made healthcare a central pillar of his social work. He also continues to support various healthcare charities, reflecting a sustained focus on improving public health.

Belonging to one of the world’s most renowned and influential royal families, Himayat’s lineage traces its roots across Turkey, Istanbul, England, and India — reflecting a rich legacy of culture, leadership, and service. Mirza's socialist principles and humble approach to philanthropy have allowed him to make a quiet yet profound difference in countless lives over the past 30 years.

His continued work serves as a powerful reminder that sustained effort and a clear vision are essential for addressing the world's most pressing challenges and building a safer future for humanity.
