Hansal Mehta Summoned By Delhi High Court For ‘Faraaz’ Movie Based On 2016 Dhaka Attack

A suit was filed, objecting to their upcoming film, ‘Faraaz’ which is based on 2016 Dhaka terrorist attack.

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta along with producer Bhushan Kumar have been summoned by the Delhi High Court and have been asked to appear before the court on October 28, states a report in Hindustan Times.

A suit was filed against the duo, objecting to their upcoming film, ‘Faraaz’ which is based on 2016 Dhaka terrorist attack.

Families of the two victims - Tarishi Jain and Abinta Kabir, who died in the attack have filed a suit against the makers since the film’s name is the same as the girls’ best friend.

The HT report quoted a lawyer who claimed that they have sent a legal notice to Hansal Mehta and others for portraying Faraaz in the movie without taking any consent from the family. They are demanding that the movie must not be named Faraaz because it is closely connected to the families of those who lost their life in the terrorist attack. The makers of ‘Faraaz’ have given a reply which the lawyer claimed was ‘very vague’ and has demanded a special screening of the movie.

‘Faraaz’ will narrate the story of the Holey Artisan cafe attack that shook Bangladesh in July 2016. Speaking about the movie, Hansal Mehta had earlier said, "Faraaz is a story of deep humanity and its ultimate triumph in the face of violent adversity. While it is based on true events, it is also a deeply personal story that I've held close to my heart for nearly three years."

‘Faraaz’ marks the debut of late Bollywood superstar Shashi Kapoor’s grandson Zahan Kapoor.
