“Juno” And “The Umbrella Academy” Star Elliot Page Comes Out As Transgender

Elliot Page formerly known as Ellen Page has come out as a Transgender. The actor who is known for films such as Juno and Inception announced the news via Twitter.

New Delhi: The Umbrella Academy” star Elliot Page formerly known as Ellen Page came out as transgender on Tuesday. In a heartfelt note on Twitter, Elliot shared that he was “profoundly happy” and expressed his gratitude towards the people who supported him. “Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot,” Page wrote in a statement shared on Twitter and Instagram. “I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life.”

The 33-year-old actor from Nova Scotia, said his decision to come out as trans, which also involved changing his first name, came after a long journey and with much support from the LGBTQ community.

The actor who is best known for the movie ‘Juno’, ‘Inception’ and Netflix’s series ‘The Umbrella Academy’ shared that though he feels “profoundly happy” but he also feels “scared”. “I’m scared of the invasiveness, the hate, the ‘jokes’ and of violence,” Page continued. “The statistics are staggering.

The discrimination towards trans people is rife, insidious, and cruel, resulting in horrific consequences.” Elaborating more on the discrimination and transphobic violence, Page stated that ‘40 trans people have been killed in 2020 alone’. Page also called out political leaders who “criminalize trans health care” along with people with large platforms who “continue to spew hostility towards the trans community.” “You have blood on your hands,” Page wrote. “You unleash a fury of vile and demeaning rage that lands on the shoulders of the trans community, a community in which 40% of trans adults report attempting suicide.” Actors like Sir Patrick Stewart who has worked with Page in the X-Men movies and Mark Ruffalo have congratulated him and shown their support.

Elliot had made his cinematic breakthrough with the title role in Jason Reitman's film Juno (2007), earning nominations for an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, a Critics' Choice Awards, a Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award. The actor has also received rave reviews for roles in The Tracey Fragments (2007), Whip It (2009), Super (2010), Inception (2010), and Tallulah (2016).
