New Delhi: 'Ek Villain Returns' starring John Abraham, Arjun Kapoor, Disha Patani, Tara Sutaria had a decent opening day at the box office. The film, which was released on Friday, collected Rs 7.05 crore on its first day.

Trade expert Taran Adarsh shared the box office numbers of the film in his tweet. He tweeted, “#EkVillainReturns reaps the benefit of franchise factor, opens better at single screens of mass pockets and Tier-2 centres... Metros - especially national chains - need to gather momentum... Day 2 and 3 crucial... Fri ₹ 7.05 cr. #India biz.”

The film has opened better in single-screen theatres and tier 2 cities and at places clocked an occupancy as high as 70 percent.

According to Bollywood Hungama, the trend through the weekend will give a clear picture of the film’s fate. The movie has a chance of earning Rs. 25 crores over the weekend with even a normal trend of a 10% jump per day. If it manages to double through the lifetime run, it will end up being in a position that's a lot better than 99% of Hindi releases this year.

About the film
'Ek Villain Returns' is the sequel to the 2014 hit film, 'Ek Villain', which starred Sidharth Malhotra, Shraddha Kapoor and Riteish Deshmukh. The movie is produced by Ekta Kapoor's production house 'Balaji Telefilms Ltd’ and directed by Mohit Suri. Boasting an ensemble cast of John Abraham, Arjun Kapoor, Disha Patani, Tara Sutaria, the film had a good buzz owing to its successful prequel.

Film’s Review
Abp Live gave the film 2.5 out of 5 stars. As per the review, the film does try to measure up to its first installment but manages only in parts. It creates a new template for itself. 'Ek Villain Returns' is a thriller-erotica done right with the help of everything else but its actors.
