'I Don't Have The...': Did R Madhavan Just Shade Aamir And Salman Over De-Ageing In Films?

R. Madhavan stars in the upcoming OTT film 'Aap Jaisa Koi'. Following speculation about his youthful appearance in the trailer, Madhavan clarified he hasn't used de-aging technology.

After impressing audiences with his intense negative role in Kesari: Chapter 2 earlier this year, R Madhavan is ready to showcase a completely different side in his upcoming OTT release, Aap Jaisa Koi. Co-starring Fatima Sana Shaikh and directed by Sameer Ali Khan, the film’s trailer dropped recently, offering a slice-of-life narrative filled with warmth, subtle emotions, and everyday compromises.

But besides the refreshing vibe of the story, it’s Madhavan’s surprisingly youthful appearance that’s generating buzz—leading many to speculate if technology had a hand in it. Madhavan, however, is setting the record straight.

Madhavan's Take On De-Ageing

At the trailer launch of Aap Jaisa Koi, the actor addressed the growing chatter around his seemingly younger look.

“They've all been accusing me of de-ageing, but I don't think I have the budget for that. It hasn't happened, said Madhavan with a laugh.

While many assumed VFX played a role, the actor revealed that his youthful glow is all-natural, thanks to a back-to-basics approach he discovered years ago.

A Fitness Philosophy Born from Saala Khadoos

Recalling his physical transformation for the 2016 sports drama Saala Khadoos, Madhavan shared his health journey.

“When I went to train for Saala Khadoos, I consulted numerous dieticians and several people who advised me on how to lose weight and get fit—what diet to follow, what time to eat, and so on...but I couldn't find anyone I truly resonated with,” he said.

Eventually, it was a simple tip that made the difference.

“What truly worked for me was some true and blue old school advice... I just started eating lesser than I usually did. And that's what did the trick for me.”

A Subtle Dig at Bollywood’s De-Ageing Trend?

Madhavan’s cheeky remark about the lack of a “budget” for de-ageing hasn’t gone unnoticed, especially in an era where several A-listers have either admitted to or been speculated to use the tech.

Aamir Khan, for instance, has openly endorsed age-altering tech in film. In a past interview with Indian Express, the superstar shared,
“I’m 60, but in today’s day and age, we have the advantage of VFX... Today, we can use technology to convincingly shift age, so age is no longer a barrier for actors.”

Meanwhile, Salman Khan, who’s often under the scanner for his youthful on-screen appearances, has never addressed the speculation around possible de-ageing.

All Eyes on Aap Jaisa Koi

With Aap Jaisa Koi gearing up for a July 11 release, audiences are excited to see Madhavan in a grounded, romantic role once again. The film promises a heartwarming tale of an unlikely match, and if the trailer is any indication, Madhavan’s performance—and his ageless charm—will be at the center of it all.
