Comedian Daniel Fernandez Gets Social Media Threats For Jokes On Sushant Singh Rajput, Mental Health

After Munawar Faruqui, Mumbai-based Daniel Fernandez is facing flak for making jokes on Sushant Singh Rajput and mental health

Comedian Daniel Fernandez is being called out by certain sections of social media users for making jokes about Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. In a viral video of his act, Daniel seems to have made fun of India's obsession with Rhea Chakraborty's arrest post Sushant Singh Rajput death and mental health. This has irked many fans of Sushant Singh Rajput who have been demanding justice for the late actor since his demise. The act has paved way to many negative comments and social media threats, leading to Daniel extending an apology for his act.

As the video went viral, calls for boycotting the comedian rose and the volley soon turned to a call for arresting the artist. Many so-called 'fans' of Rajput have also been insinuating harm befalling Fernandez while others reproached the comedian for making jokes about the dead. Some went as far as to wish pain and 'anguish' for Fernandez's family.

A fan of SSR wrote, 'The worst thing you could do as a stand-up comedian is making jokes on a tragedy. Dislike and mass report this video for making jokes on Sushant Singh Rajput death.' Another one wrote, 'This video is a slap on humanity. Extremely derogatory and painful for all of us. How come a comedian make fun of a dead man like this?@itsSSR he never deserved this Are we Human?'

Post all the hatred coming his way, Daniel took to his Instagram account to extend an apology. He mentioned that as a comedian, his aim is to make people laugh but 'sometimes in that endeavour it is possible that I might evoke an unfavorable response.' He also accepted that he made a factual error when he used the word 'acquitted' while talking about Rhea Chakraborty.

In previous interviews, Fernandez had stated that he himself dealt with mental health and anxiety issues.

The incident occurred days after Munawar Faruqui and four others were arrested for allegedly passing indecent remarks against Hindu deities and Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a show at Indore in Madhya Pradesh. The arrest caused widespread outrage on social media with many calling it an attack on free speech. Critics of the arrest and fans of Faruqui have even observed that Faruqui never really made the alleged remarks for which he was arrested.
