Shalini Passi on talent and character
Recently, she shared a video of herself on her official social media handle advocating the importance of character. On her Instagram stories, Shalini shared a video featuring a message from Grammy-award winning and highly-celebrated singer Adele on why character is more important than talent. The lines from her speech can be read as, "Talent can’t dictate how you move. Talent can’t decide how you treat people. It doesn’t have a moral compass. Talent cannot read a room. You can be the most talented person on the planet and only make bad decisions. And to be honest, talent is kind of, it’s random, you know? It’s like you might have it, but what does it mean? But character, well, the character is observed. It is witnessed."
Passi, who also believes that character is developed over time with the influence of others, is making her point with Adele's speech. Passi had never shied away from showing her gratitude for being born with a golden spoon. Despite this, Passi believes in working hard every day, which she also made clear with her post.
In the video, the Hollywood singer continues, "Character is taught and it’s passed down. My mother, my aunties and my grandmothers were all strong, loud, boisterous, loyal and cutthroat women like me. They had to learn the hard way what it is to be a woman and so, in turn, they hardened. Their character was their armour. But thanks to them, my character is my skin. I don’t have stories of how my path to success was hard because it wasn’t. And I know that’s rare and I know I’m lucky, but that’s because of you. A lot of you had to claim your power and you’ve given me mine. Thank you for leaving the key."
