Shabana Azmi Fondly Remembers Farooq Shaikh On His 10th Death Anniversary

On Farooq Shaikh's 10th death anniversary, actor Shabana Azmi penned a special note in fond remembrance of the actor who was her colleague and friend for most part of her life.

New Delhi: Veteran actor Farooq Shaikh passed away on December 28, 2013. On his 10th death anniversary, actor Shabana Azmi penned a special note in fond remembrance of the actor who was her colleague and friend for most of her life. Taking to her official Instagram handle, Azmi shared a picture with Farooq Shaikh.

Shabana Azmi wrote alongside the picture, “10 years... I remember so clearly that on 14th Dec we did our last show of Tumhari Amrita in front of the Taj Mahal. I remarked that we can never find a venue to match the Taj and that it should be our last show since we had been playing it for 22 years ."

"Pat came your reply “Why should we pull the curtains on Tumhari Amrita - we will do it for another 22 years!”14 days later you were gone … and with it were washed away a deep friendship of 40 years .. I can never play Amrita again with my Zulfi gone …I miss you Firkee,” she added.

Shabana Azmi and Farooq Shaikh co-starred in the popular play 'Tumhari Amrita' directed by Feroz Abbas Khan. The play was a Hindi adaptation of A.R. Gurney's play 'Love Letters'.

It revolves around the characters Amrita Nigam and Zulfikar Haider played by Shabana Azmi and Farooq Shaikh respectively. 

Farooq Shaikh was an actor, philanthropist and TV presenter. He is best known for his work in Hindi films and TV. The actor is best known for his contribution to parallel cinema or the New Indian Cinema. 

Farooq Shaikh worked with directors like Satyajit Ray, Muzaffar Ali, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Ayan Mukerji, Ketan Mehta and Sai Paranjpye.

The veteran actor also worked with Ranbir Kapoor in ‘Ye Jawani Hai Deewani’ in 2013 which also happened to be his last film. Farooq Shaikh played the role of Ranbir Kapoor’s father in the film.
