Rituparna Sengupta Mobbed At RG Kar Protest Amid 'Go Back' Slogans; Actress Reacts

New Delhi: Bengali actor Rituparna Sengupta was heckled during 'Reclaim the night' protest march in Kolkata on Sep 4, 2024, when she tried to join the protesters in solidarity. Sengupta, who was also trolled over a protest video, met with 'Go back' slogans as she reached the protest area, Shyambazar,  with protesters going to the extent of pounding her car as she left with security.

Rituparna Sengupta 'Go Back'

After August 14 2024, this was the second state-wide protests and demonstrations that went on throughout the night on September 4, 2024. Several people, including women and children, were seen on the streets demanding speedy justice for the RG Kar rape-murder victim and her family.

As protestors marched through the night, Tollywood actor Rituparma Sengpupta, like many celebrities who have been part of such protests, showed up at one of the demonstrations on the night of September 4.

Rituparna's conch video

Earlier, the 'Dahan' actor was trolled for her 'staged' solidarity with the doctor's protest over the RG Kar rape-murder incident when she shared a video of herself blowing a conch.

She shared the video on August 15. However, people pointed out that the visuals did not look real and her blowing the coch looked 'superimposed'. While some said she used the wrong sort of conch-one that is never used for blowing- and others simply labelled her video 'fake'.

Following the protest video, which a majority of netizens believed was also a 'faking grief' show, the actor became a target of brutal online trolling and meme fest.

With Sengupta’s presence at the protest march, demonstrators' anger seemed to be directed at her because of the conch video she posted on social media.

Sengupta escorted by police

In videos that have been doing the rounds on social media, we see Sengupta being escorted by the police and her security personnel as the situation escalated.

Speaking about the incident, Rituparna Sengupta told India Today, "I am shocked and speechless. What happened can be aptly described as hooliganism. I went there to express the agony I have been in just like others. I addressed the media as well, but suddenly a large group appeared out of nowhere and started pushing me. They created chaos and pandemonium. They started pushing me and I tripped. They were drunk. There was a stampede-like situation."
