Kanan Gill Did It Before Ranveer Allahbadia! Old Clip Of His ‘Sex With Parents’ Joke Goes Viral
As criticism around Ranveer Allahbadia's comment on India's Got Latent continues, netizens have unearthed an old clip of stand-up comedian Kanan Gill asking the exact same question nearly a decade ago.

YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia is facing severe backlash after making an objectionable remark on Samay Raina’s YouTube show India’s Got Latent. The controversy has led to multiple FIRs being filed against him and others. In response to the growing outrage, Samay Raina has taken down all videos of the show from his channel. As criticism continues, netizens have unearthed an old clip of stand-up comedian Kanan Gill asking the exact same question nearly a decade ago.
Kanan Gill asks the same question in a viral video
The resurfaced video, believed to be from 2015, shows Kanan Gill interviewing actors Jackky Bhagnani and Lauren Gottlieb, likely during the promotional run for their film ‘Welcome to Karachi’. In the clip, Kanan asks them, “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your lives or join in once and stop it?” The question leaves both actors visibly shocked, while Kanan insists they must answer.

Netizens react
Social media users have reacted strongly to the resurfaced footage. One user remarked, “Well 2015 us were more chill than 2025 us.”
Another user commented, “Jio was not introduced, internet was not cheap and those who had internet had better things to do than just waste your data on these things. Moral: you got cheap internet and so did everyone else and you have to deal with butthurt intellectuals having their own moral compass on everything.”
“That was a targeted attack on IGL show,” another person claimed.
Another comment read, “See that’s what I feel… they are blowing things out of proportion… @ranveerallahbadia has already apologised… the episodes from that show have been deleted—what more is required? I have been ignoring and avoiding that show because I don’t like such content, and people should also choose what they want to do.”
“Latent’s only mistake was it became bigger than traditional media,” another user wrote.
The same question was also asked Australian comedy series 'Truth or Drink', where TV host Sammy Walsh posed it to Australian comedian Alan Fang.
Ranveer Allahbadia was aware of what he was going to say- it was a well prepared skit copied from an English show! It was not an accident or a slip of tongue!

Ranveer Allahbadia's comment and apology
Ranveer Allahbadia found himself in hot water after a clip of him asking the question to a contestant on India’s Got Latent went viral, triggering widespread backlash. The uproar prompted him to issue an apology, acknowledging his misstep. He said, “I’m just here for an apology. I personally had a lapse in judgment. It wasn’t cool on my part. The podcast is watched by people of all ages. I don’t want to be the kind of person that takes that responsibility lightly, and family is the last thing that I would ever disrespect.”
Legal repercussions
The controversy has now taken a legal turn. Multiple cases have been filed against Ranveer Allahbadia and Samay Raina and other judges. The Mumbai Police have so far recorded statements from seven individuals, including social media influencer Apoorva Makhija, regarding the controversial remarks. Additionally, a team from the Assam Police is currently in Mumbai to investigate the case, an official stated. Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has summoned Allahbadia, Raina, and fellow panellists Makhija, Jaspreet Singh, and Ashish Chanchlani, along with the show’s producers Tushar Poojari and Saurabh Bothra, to appear before the commission in New Delhi on February 17.
