KBC16: Amitabh Bachchan Recalls 'Bijli Wala Jacket' From Sara Zamana Song Shoot; Says He Danced Because Of 'Electric Shocks'

The actor recently revealed that he was getting ' electric shocks’ during the shoot of the song Sara Zamana on the show.

New Delhi: Amitabh Bachchan is currently hosting 'Kaun Banega Crorepati 16'. The veteran actor and host often shares anecdotes on the show from his film sets, award shows and personal life. The actor recently revealed that he was getting ' electric shocks’ during the shoot of the song Sara Zamana on the show.

Sara Zamana story

In the latest episode, Amitabh Bachchan was seen interacting with contestant Swapn Chaturvedi from Madhya Pradesh, when he opened up about one of his most iconic performances of all time, Sara Zamana from the film 'Yaarana'.

Contestant Swapn told Amitabh Bachchan that 'Yaarana' was one of his favourite films, a movie he could watch over and over again. He then asked the actor about his versatility as an actor, about the various genres when Amitabh Bachchan quipped, "Hum toh naukri ke chakkar mein hote hain, bas naukri mil jaye!"(I’m just trying to get a job!).

Meanwhile, Big B also fondly recalled the song 'Sara Zamana' suggesting that it was his idea to shoot the song in a stadium. The recently opened Netaji Subhas Chandra Stadium back then in Kolkata was huge, and some 50k-60k people showed up at shoot despite a seating capacity of only 12-15k. This led them to stop filming and leave.

Later, Amitabh suggested shooting at night, secretly, without creating any buzz around it. So after returning to Mumbai, they quietly went back to Kolkata for a night shoot, hoping no crowds would be present. The director also came up with the idea of placing candles in the seats to give an illusion of an audience. So, that night they filmed the song successfully.

He also shed light on his iconic costume, the 'bijli wala jacket'( electric jacket). As technology was not advanced at the time, and the lights on his jacket were controlled by a wire connected to electricity. So, Bachchan wore an entire strin of light around his body, with the wire trailing from his leg and plugged into the main switchboard. "The moment the electricity flowed, I started dancing—not because I wanted to, but because I was getting electric shocks!" he added.

Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 16 airs on Sony Entertainment Television and Sony Liv app.
