Shahid Kapoor, who is gearing up for ‘Deva’, recently shared his thoughts on which of his three most beloved characters—Aditya from Jab We Met, Kabir Singh, or Haider—he relates to the most.

Shahid Kapoor, who is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film ‘Deva’, recently shared his thoughts on which of his three most beloved characters—Aditya from Jab We Met, Kabir Singh, or Haider—he relates to the most. In a conversation with ABP’s ENT Live, the actor also revealed what drew him to ‘Deva’ when he first read the script.
Shahid Kapoor on whom he relates the most
When asked which character he connects with the most, Shahid explained, “All of them have something of me, but I am not like any of them. Aspects of me will be in every character, but completely to main Aditya nahi hun. I will be honest with you, there must be something of me in Aditya, but a lot will be of Imtiaz because he has written it and I have to connect with the character. I can learn from Aditya. But can’t take credit of that character. I can’t take credit for Aditya, Haider, or Kabir because I only portrayed them, but they were written by someone else and imagined by someone else. As an actor, you are often just conveying the filmmaker’s emotions to the audience. So credit for Aditya’s behaviour should go to Imtiaz completely.”
On being asked which character he enjoyed playing the most, Shahid admitted, “All of them, because they are all part of me. I can’t choose; I love all of them in a different way.”
In a lighthearted moment, he also advised women—not to idealise Aditya from Jab We Met as the perfect partner. “If you want to be realistic then you should lower your standard a little bit, nahi to single reh jaoge. Men are imperfect, so adjust.”
What made Shahid Kapoor choose Deva
Talking about Deva, Shahid revealed what made him choose the film. He said, “There are many layers to the character, with two very opposing sides. Main zaada nahi kehna chahunga but humne hint bhi diya hai har kisi andar ek dev hota hai and har kisi key andar ek asur hota hai that’s why the name is Deva. Main zaada nahi bolna chahunga but jab aap dekhoge to shayad aapkpo feel hoga. So the potential of the actor ki main kya kar sakta hu is film mein and the world of the film, dono cheezein mujhe bohat pasand aai (I don’t want to reveal much, but we’ve hinted that everyone has both a divine and a dark side within them—that’s why the name is Deva. I don’t want to say too much, but when you watch it, you might feel it. The potential of what I can do as an actor in this film, along with the world of the film, are two things that really excited me).”
Also starring Pooja Hegde, Deva is all set to release on January 31.
