Chinmayi Slams Kamal Haasan For Ignoring 'Me Too' Allegations But Supporting Wrestlers Protest

Chinmayi Sripaada retweeted Kamal Haasan’s tweet about Indian wrestlers and described the actor's hypocrisy.

New Delhi: After Kamal Haasan tweeted his sympathy for Indian wrestlers protesting the government's inactivity in the sexual harassment case against BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh, singer Chinmayi Sripaada criticised him. Kamal is one of the few well-known figures who publicly backed the wrestlers. Chinmayi questioned why he has been silent about the harassment that has been occurring right in front of his eyes. She responded to Kamal Haasan's tweet by asking where his support was when she was barred from the music business for having "named her molester."

Singer Chinmayi Sripaada said that Tamil writer Vairamuthu had sexually harassed her on business trips and threatened to terminate her career, sparking a backlash during India's 'Me Too' campaign.

On Thursday, Chinmayi retweeted Kamal Haasan’s tweet and included a harsh critique of the actor for his hypocrisy. Chinmayi questioned the actor-director on his silence in the face of so many allegations against Vairamuthu. She wrote, “5 years of a singer in Tamilnadu being banned for naming a molester right in front of their eyes and not a pip about it since the poettu has their respect. How does one trust politicians who speak for women’s safety while they ignore harassment right under their noses? Just. Asking. Now while my timeline will blow up with abuse, shouting and yelling imma gonna exit. Buhbye!”

Today, Chinmayi shared Kamal's tweet about the protesting wrestlers and called him out in a long note.

Singer Sona Mohapatra expressed her support to Chinmayi and wrote,  "Dearest @Chinmayi , sending love, healing, fighting spirit & strength , STRENGTH to you , today & always . To hell with the dim-wits who try & shame you."

For the unversed, a group of female wrestlers, including Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia, and others, have been holding a protest in Delhi's Jantar Mantar against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
