According to The Indian Express, concerned locals first noticed the actress aimlessly walking along the Bardhaman-Arambagh state highway. Dressed in a pair of shorts and a black full-sleeved shirt, she was reportedly seen sitting by the road with a pen and paper in hand, speaking erratically in a mix of Bengali and English.
Following multiple calls from locals, police arrived at the scene and were able to identify her. She was then taken into care and shifted to a local shelter home for her safety and wellbeing.
“Choudhury, who was spotted wandering along the Bardhaman-Arambagh state highway, has been sent to a shelter home and efforts are on to trace her family,” said Abhishek Mandal, Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Bardhaman Sadar South, as quoted by The Indian Express. Mandal also confirmed that authorities had alerted the Behala police station in Kolkata, where the actress reportedly resides.
Who is Sumi Har Choudhry?
Sumi Har Choudhry is known for her work as a supporting actor in various Bengali television shows and films. One of her notable screen appearances includes Khashi Katha: A Goat Saga, where she shared the frame with veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah. According to her social media accounts, she has also been part of projects such as Dwitiyo Purush, Rupsagore Moner Manush, and Tumi Ashe Pashe Thakle.
Choudhry’s identity came to light when she told locals who offered her help that she worked in television serials. Initially skeptical, residents soon confirmed her claim by searching her name online and matching photos from her social media.
“She seemed mentally disturbed, but kept repeating that she acted in serials. At first, we didn’t believe her. Then we found her photos online,” a local told The Indian Express.
When questioned about her background, Choudhry reportedly gave conflicting responses, mentioning both Kolkata and Bolpur in Birbhum district. Police have confirmed she is a resident of Behala in Kolkata, although it is believed she may have spent some time in Bolpur.
