New Delhi: Renowned announcer and talk show host Ameen Sayani passed away on Tuesday evening due to a heart attack. He was 91 years old.
Ameen Sayani's son, Rajil Sayani, confirmed his death to ABP News.
According to his son, Ameen Sayani suffered a heart attack at his residence in South Mumbai at around 6:00 PM on Tuesday.
Following the heart attack, his son rushed him to H.N. Reliance Foundation Hospital in South Mumbai, where doctors declared him dead after a brief attempt to treat him.
Ameen Sayani had been suffering from high blood pressure and other age-related ailments for some time. He had also complained of back pain for the past 12 years, which required him to use a walker for mobility.
Ameen Sayani was a legendary Indian announcer and talk show host who enjoyed an illustrious career spanning several decades. His program "Binaca Geetmala," which aired on Radio Ceylon and later on All India Radio's Vividh Bharati for nearly 42 years, broke all records of success. People eagerly awaited to listen to him every week. Sayani's captivating voice and engaging style made him a household name across India.
Ameen Sayani holds the record for producing/comparing/voice-over for more than 54,000 radio programs.
The iconic radio presenter gave voiceovers for approximately 19,000 jingles, earning him a place in the prestigious Limca Book of Records.
He also worked as an announcer in films like "Bhoot Bangla," "Teen Deviyan," and "Katl."
Sayani's contributions weren't limited to radio; he also worked as an announcer in films and hosted popular shows like "S Kumars Ka Filmi Mukadama," which focused on film stars.
Ameen Sayani's last rites are likely to take place in South Mumbai tomorrow.
