Alka Yagnik Diagnosed With Rare Sensory Hearing Loss, Says, 'Suddenly Felt I Was Not Able To Hear Anything'

Alka Yagnik updated her fans about her rare hearing disorder and cautioned fans for using loud music.

New Delhi: Veteran singer Alka Yagnik has spoken out about her struggle with sensory neural nerve hearing loss, a rare condition. In a long Instagram post, Alka Yagnik reveals her illness, which she described as a "sudden major setback”. 

On June 17, Alka Yagnik pleaded with her Instagram followers for empathy and support. "To all my fans, friends, followers and well-wishers," Alka started, writing beside an old picture of herself.

She said, “A few weeks ago, as I walked out of a flight, I suddenly felt I was not able to hear anything. Having mustered some courage in the weeks following the episode, I want to break my silence now for all my friends and well wishers who have been asking me why I’m missing in action."

Sharing her diagnosis, she wrote, “It has been diagnosed by my docs as a rare sensory neural nerve hearing loss, due to a viral attack...This sudden, major setback has caught me completely unaware. As I attempt to come to terms with it please keep me in your prayers."

Alka Yagnik Warned Fans Against Listening to Loud Music

The 58-year-old singer warns her audience and fellow workers about the risks of listening to music at excessive volumes or using headphones. "For my fans and young colleagues, I would add a word of caution regarding exposure to very loud music and headphones. One day, I wish to share the health perils of my professional life. With all your love and support I am hoping to recalibrate my life and come back to you soon. Your support and understanding will mean the world to me in this critical hour," she concluded.

Alka Yagnik's Manager Provides More Info

In a conversation with ABP News, Alka's manager Neeraj Mishra said that due to this disease, Alka Yagnik has had to postpone many of her concerts and professional commitments for the time being.

Her manager told in an exclusive interview that around 2.5 months ago, Alka Yagnik travelled from Mumbai to Goa. As soon as she got off, she lost hearing ability in one ear. After a day, she consulted a doctor and was eventually diagnosed with this rare hearing loss.
