Box Office Collection: Aamir Khan's 'Laal Singh Chaddha' And Akshay Kumar's 'Raksha Bandhan' Record Slow Opening

Two big-ticket films have been released on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan- Aamir Khan’s much anticipated ‘Laal Sing Chaddha’ and Akshay Kumar’s ‘Raksha Bandhan’.

New Delhi: Two big-ticket films have been released on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan- Aamir Khan’s much anticipated ‘Laal Sing Chaddha’ and Akshay Kumar’s ‘Raksha Bandhan’. Though based on completely different subjects and treatment, both the films we asked to be boycotted by a section of people. Despite being the festive release, both the films have opened to a slow start.

‘Laal Sing Chaddha’ has recorded a slow start of 15-20 percent occupancy in the opening shows. Though the ticket window is following the same trend post-pandemic, expectations were high from the film as it marks Aamir Khan’s return to the silver screen after almost four years. According to Bollywood Hungama, the occupancy in the morning shows is one of the lowest ever for Aamir Khan since ‘3 Idiots’.

The collection is expected to increase through the day and over the weekend and the film needs a good word of mouth to increase the footfall. Trade pundits are optimistic that the extended weekend with Raksha Bandhan and Independence Day holidays will boost the film’s collections.

'Laal Singh Chaddha’ is an official adaptation of Robert Zemeckis’ six Academy Awards winner 'Forrest Gump' starring Tom Hanks. The film also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mona Singh, and Naga Chaitanya.

Box office opening of ‘Raksha Bandhan’

Akshay Kumar, Bhumi Pednekar starrer ‘Raksha Bandhan’ had tough competition from ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’. The film also opened to a low opening with around 12-15% occupancy. The film has reportedly recorded a meager collection in multiplexes. The film is doing better in the single-screen market.

According to Box Office India, ‘Raksha Bandhan’ has opened better than ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ in many places like Gujarat, UP, and Bihar where Akshay Kumar has a better hold. The film also needs word of mouth for its footfall to increase over the weekend.

Directed by Aanand L Rai, ‘Raksha Bandhan’ features Sadia Khateeb, Sahejmeen Kaur, Smrithi Srikanth and Deepika Khanna in the roles of Akshay’s sisters while Bhumi Pednekar plays his leading lady.
