Exclusive | Barun Sobti On The Success Of 'Kohrra'- Says, '... This Is A Little Crazy'

The series created by Sudip Sharma and directed by Randeep Jha, premiered on Netflix on July 15, 2023 and since then taken the internet by storm.

New Delhi: Barun Sobti was recently seen in the murder mystery 'Kohrra' which is streaming on Netflix. Sobti plays the character of a cop in the series and seamlessly showcases the different sides a cop has. The series created by Sudip Sharma and directed by Randeep Jha, premiered on Netflix on July 15, 2023 and since then it has taken the internet by storm. 'Kohrra' was loved by most people given the reality it portrays which made the audience connect to it very well.

In a candid interaction with ABP Live, Barun talked about the huge success of the film and shared whether this was anticipated or not.

He said, "I expected it to be a big success. I told everyone, including the writer himself that its going to be huge. But, this is a little crazy. I mean, its really spread like wild fire and people are talking about it with so much passion. It's so heartening to see that but it's a little unprecedented. We did think it's going to be good, but it's going to be that good, we didn't know that."

Talking about the reason behind the series being such a hit and loved by almost everyone, Barun said, "The show had the audacity to cast whoever they thought was right for the part. The writer backed his research. He knows Punjab very well and no one knows Punjab better than him and that's true. The freedom for performing that was given was a key. This never happens. So, these are very simple things that every filmmaker should understand but people don't understand it."

In the series Barun plays a cop who is seen beating up criminals, but at the same time an innocent side of his character is also reflected. Additionally, he is someone who deals with family issues as well in the movie.

Talking about the transitions he had to portray in one character, he said, "I knew that the character had to be a litle affable, because this kind of a character can be easily disliked. so, yeah I think I got a different kind of faculty to perform every scene and this kind of characters are an opportunity to show your range. So, that's exactly what I thought- I need to bring in range, and it can't be a uni-dimensional character and understanding him from the writer and the creator was a major part of it."

Barun had previously worked with director Randeep Jha in 'Halahal' where also he played the role of a police officer. Being all in praise about Randeep Jha, Barun shared his experience working with him.

He said, "Randeep is a very dedicated filmmaker. He is very creative and understands world cinema very well and he is a very gentle soul. Randeep is full of positive attributes and to top it all, he is a creative genius, so there is nothing to dislike about him."

Apart from 'Kohrra', Barun Sobti was also seen in 'Asur 2' and he also has a few more films yet to be released, including 'Donali' and 'Bawandar'.
