Yediyurappa Rules Out His Son Contesting Against Siddaramaiah, Says He Will Fight From Shikaripura

Varuna in Mysuru district has hogged the limelight as Siddaramaiah, the former Chief Minister, is set to enter the fray in this segment, currently represented by his son Yathindra.

Former Karnataka chief minister and senior BJP leader B S Yediyurappa on Friday confirmed that his son B Y Vijayendra will not contest from Varuna constituency against Congress leader Siddaramaiah, and said he would fight the election from Shikaripura constituency.

Yediyurappa is sitting MLA from Shikaripura, and has already announced his retirement from electoral politics.

While speaking to reporters about the decision Yediyurappa said, "There is already pressure to field Vijayendra from Varuna, but I have said it long back though there is pressure from Varuna, he should contest from Shikaripura. So, there is no question of Vijayendra contesting from Varuna for whatsoever reason," reported PTI.

Replying to a question on Vijayendra's statement that he would the party's (BJP) decision the former Karnataka chief minister said, "His statement is correct but I am saying that he will contest from Shikaripura. I will convey this to the party high command and Vijayendra. There is no question of him contesting from Varuna in Mysuru."

Till Thursday, Yediyurappa was silent on whether his son Vijayendra will throw his hat in the ring in Varuna against Congress stalwart Siddaramaiah or contest from Shikaripura.

Vijayendra has served as the general secretary of the BJP's youth wing, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha.

Varuna in Mysuru district has hogged the limelight as Siddaramaiah, the Congress legislature party leader and former Chief Minister is set to enter the fray in this segment, currently represented by his son Yathindra.

Assembly election in Karnataka will be held in a single phase on May 10, while counting of votes will take place three days later.

In the 2018 assembly election, the Bharatiya Janata Party had emerged as the single-largest party, winning 104 seats in the 224-member assembly. The Congress had won 80 seats and Janata Dal (Secular) emerged victorious in 37 constituencies.
