Uttarakhand MLAs To Take Oath Today, CM Name To Be Declared By Evening

Kaushik also confirmed that the party will announce the name of the chief minister at the Legislative Party meeting to be held in evening today.

New Delhi: The oath taking ceremony of the newly elected Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs of Uttarakhand will take place at the state assembly in Dehradun today. 

While speaking to the media, Uttarakhand BJP chief Madan Kaushik said, "All newly elected members of the Legislative Assembly will take oath at 11 am in Vidhan Sabha," reported news agency ANI.

Kaushik also confirmed that the party will announce the name of the chief minister at the Legislative Party meeting to be held in evening today, after the swearing-in ceremony.

"The meeting of Legislative Party will be held in the evening. Thereafter, the Chief Minister's name will be announced," said Kaushik, as reported by ANI.

Pro-tem Speaker in the Uttarakhand Assembly Bansidhar Bhagat and Governor, Lieutenant General (Retired) Gurmit Singh had also confirmed the news of the oath taking ceremony scheduled for Monday.

Former Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Ramesh Pokriyal met the Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence in the national capital Sunday to discuss government formation in the state. 

BJP President JP Nadda and party leaders BL Santhosh and Uttarakhand minister Satpal Maharaj were also party of the meeting.

"The procedure for government formation is underway...the BJP central leadership will take a decision (on CM face)," Dhami said after his meeting with Shah, as reported by ANI.

Pushkar Singh Dhami was the chief ministerial candidate of the BJP but he lost election from the Khatima constituency Congress’s Bhuwan Chand Kapri by over 6,000 votes.

Dhami got a total of 41,598 votes, while Kapri got 48,177 with a vote share of 51.89 per cent.

BJP won election in Uttarakhand for the second consecutive time by securing 47 of the 70 assembly seats.
